Stuart Reid, TSG’s CTO, will be the Keynote speaker at MaSST 2012 (Metrics and Standards for Software Testing) in Washington in June.

The talk is entitled ‘Testing Standards by Numbers’

This presentation shall consider the topic of software testing standards, briefly covering the following five main areas; the motivation for their existence, the different aspects of testing that are included in standards, the justification for their content, the process for their development, and, finally, the new ISO/IEC 29119 standard on software testing.

The rationale for standards shall be considered from a variety of perspectives, including the economics of standards and the benefits and risks to both the testing and wider communities.

The breadth of the testing discipline covered by the different types of testing standards shall be described, and the murky issue of how the authors of these standards justify (or not) the inclusion of practices into these standards will be examined.

The difficulties of developing and publishing standards will be described in the context of the new ISO/IEC standard on software testing, which is, in part, due for publication later this year.

Talks on standards are often notable for their lack of quantitative evidence. This presentation shall, wherever possible, use numbers as an aid to understanding and to provide a different perspective on this topic.

Stuart Reid has been the convener of WG26, the working group developing the new ISO/IEC standard, since its inception in 2007 and will provide personal insights into the development of testing standards, having been involved in this area since 1990.

Press Release 30/03/2012

TSG Skills Gap Recruitment Service is especially for software testers and organisations looking for specialist test resources, whether they are permanent or temporary employment roles. The recruitment service can offer companies reduced risk and costs during the recruitment process with pre-screened candidates from an extensive database of fully accredited testing professionals.

With over 20 years experience in providing clients with software testing training consulting and managed services, TSG understand how difficult it can be finding the right people with the testing skills and knowledge required in today’s changing technology and software testing space.

The Skills Gap Recruitment service is headed up by Ben Le Tissier, ISEB ISTQB Certified recruiter. Having specialised in only software testing roles for the last 7 years, Ben provides the perfect recruitment solution. Being ISEB ISTQB Certified himself Ben explains “I have my finger on the pulse of what is going on in the software testing market today and I will be able to guide or advise candidates or organisations successfully. At TSG we understand technology employment law and candidate availability. The recruitment service provides a fast, safe and cost effective way of finding your next placement for permanent or temporary testing staff”

It is important for an organisation to have the right skills and resources for software testing development programmes and project work, which are available at the right time. In some cases an organisation may have requirements where there is irregular demand that may not justify a permanent hire or the want to acquire and implement new testing skills that are aligned with software testing industry practice.

TSG’s Skills Gap recruitment service can offer companies reduced risk and costs during the recruitment process with pre-screened candidates from an extensive database of fully accredited testing professionals. Companies will be provided with only relevant candidates who are right for the job to save trawling through 1000’s of CV’s trying to find the right ones.

A Personal Test Maturity Matrix process, developed by TSG’s Dr Stuart Reid can also be used to help clients make the right employment decisions when developing their teams. The recruitment service works with clients to create a partnership and the partners are rewarded with software testing training value add programme.

Individual candidates can also find permanent and temporary testing roles that are available and guidance on how to succeed in the next tester role.

TSG have a brand new and improved ISTQB Advanced Test Analyst software testing training course which is fully interactive and has received brilliant reviews from the pilot course delivery.

“This is a great training course, full of realistic practical exercises that I can relate to my day to day tester responsibilities. It has helped me to appreciate how different scenarios will affect my test approach.”

“The way we looked at test techniques made much more sense than they way it was covered in the ISEB/ISTQB Foundation course in software testing. I really liked the team exercises, rolling the dice made it much more interesting.”
