Access to the Learntesting virtual learning environment portal is provided for 1-year for all candidates taking this course. Candidates may commence it at any time during the year, but once started they are required to complete it within 120-days.  The Advanced level qualifications examine up to level K4 of the given learning objectives / levels of knowledge.

We recommend that candidates taking this course spend some time in preparation by looking at some or all of the foundation video to refresh knowledge and terminology that is common to both Foundation and Advanced level syllabi. Also ensure they are familiar with the learning objectives and syllabus for the course.

Course Overview

The Advanced Level Certificate for Technical Test Analysts is based on the ISTQB syllabus. It extends the knowledge gained in the ISTQB Foundation Certificate in Software Testing and is aimed at those who have achieved an advanced point in their careers and are expecting to be actively involved in test analysis, as well as those who want a deeper understanding of technical test analysis, such as project managers, quality managers and software development managers.

This course provides specialist coverage of the technical aspects of software testing, such as testing quality characteristics and performing white box testing. The course is presented in 2 modules plus a recommended revision day, and covers:

• Module 1: Introduction to technical testing, Specification-based testing, Code-based testing
• Module 2: Non-functional testing, Experience-based testing and Reporting.

Course Objectives

The objectives of this course are:

• To prepare candidates for the examination for the Advanced Level Technical Test Analyst based on the ISTQB syllabus;
• To extend understanding of the technical aspects of software test analysis – its practical application and key components - and to enhance awareness of technical issues and constraints around software test analysis.

The objectives of the qualification are to extend the coverage included in the ISTQB Foundation Certificate syllabus in Software Testing, and provide the advanced skills required by Technical Test Analysts by both building directly on the topics covered in the Foundation and introducing new skills particularly appropriate for the technical aspects of software testing.

About Advanced

The Advanced level qualifications are aimed at those individuals who have achieved an advanced point in their software testing careers. Each exam handles a different aspect of software testing and builds on the Foundation and Intermediate certifications with more practical and specific application of the broader theory.

What are the entry requirements?

Successful completion of the ISTQB-ISEB Certified Tester Foundation Level is a pre-requisite to taking an Advanced Certificate examination and it is suggested that candidates have a minimum of 3 years testing experience. Candidates may find the ISEB Intermediate Certificate a useful bridge between Foundation and Advanced though it is not mandatory.

The Advanced level qualifications examine up to level K4 of the given learning objectives / levels of knowledge.

The Advanced Technical Test Analyst qualification focuses on the skills and knowledge needed to define and carry out the tasks required to put a test strategy into action. Successful candidates can:

• Structure the tasks defined in the test strategy in terms of technical requirements
• Analyse the internal structure of the system in sufficient detail to meet the expected quality level
• Evaluate the system in terms of technical quality attributes such as performance, security etc
• Prepare and execute the adequate activities, and report on their progress
• Conduct technical testing activities
• Prepare the necessary evidence to support evaluations
• Implement the necessary tools and techniques to achieve the defined goals

Pre Requisites

This course is aimed at all testing professionals who hold the ISEB/ISTQB Foundation Certificate in Software Testing. In addition it is strongly recommended by the syllabus board that candidates also have at least 18 months experience in Software Testing and take an accredited course before sitting the exam.
